Russian blogger Ilya Remeslo, who criticized President Vladimir Putin and the war in Ukraine, has been detained on suspicion of spreading false information about the armed forces.
Medianews.az, citing BakuTime.az, reports that Remeslo, who was previously a Kremlin supporter, published an article on social media in March titled "Five reasons why I stopped supporting Vladimir Putin."
Remeslo, from Saint Petersburg, who became known as a public critic of Alexei Navalny, a Kremlin-opposing opposition leader campaigning against corruption and who died in prison in 2024, sharply spoke out against Putin in March 2026.
In the article, Remeslo condemned the war in Ukraine, restrictions on freedom of speech, and called for Putin’s resignation from the position of Russian leader and for him to be prosecuted.
Remeslo was detained a few days after the article was published. It is reported that he faces up to 10 years in prison.
