At the opening ceremony of the IV Shusha Global Media Forum on the topic "The mission of the media in promoting peace: Restoration of truth and rebuilding trust," President Ilham Aliyev, who participated in Shusha, stated that our country has worked on connections for a sufficiently long time: "Our sea trade port, with a capacity of 15 million tons, is the largest port in the Caspian Sea, and its volume will be increased to provide 25 million tons."

Economist MP Vuqar Bayramov told Medianews.az that the policy implemented under the leadership of the President of Azerbaijan is turning our country into a transportation and logistics hub of the region: “International freight transports on one hand strengthen the country's geopolitical position, and on the other hand increase state revenues. The Zangezur corridor, which will have a transshipment capacity of 15 million tons, will soon become an important segment of the Middle Corridor, serving not only to further strengthen Azerbaijan's geopolitical position but also enabling an increase in the revenues of the countries in the region.”

So, how much revenue does Azerbaijan earn from international freight transport?
Answering the question, V. Bayramov said that in 2025, out of 16 million 813 thousand tons of freight transported by railways, 14 million 269 thousand tons accounted for international freight transport: “Of that, 6 million 695 thousand tons were direct transit cargo. Import cargo was 4 million 723 thousand tons, and export was 2 million 850 thousand tons. Revenue from freight transportation by railways was 383 million 996 thousand manats. Of this, 333 million 911 thousand manats corresponded to international freight transport.”
The revenue obtained from freight transportation by air transport in 2025 was 2 billion 398 million manats, of which 2 billion 397 million manats corresponded to international freight transport.
Last year, revenues from international freight transport by sea transport amounted to 57 million 382 thousand manats, by pipelines 266 million 560 thousand manats, and by highways 204 million 275 thousand manats.”

According to V. Bayramov, the official results for the first quarter of this year are also encouraging: “Revenue obtained from rail transport in the first 3 months of this year was 96 million 049 manats, of which 81 million 765 thousand manats accounted for international freight transport. Revenue obtained from freight transportation by air transport was 571 million 292 thousand manats, with the international freight transport share being 571 million 50 thousand manats.”
Official figures show that revenue from international freight transport last year was 3.3 billion manats. This means that the achievement of the goal set by the President of Azerbaijan will enable Azerbaijan to earn nearly 7 billion manats annually from international freight transport. This will not only support the diversification of the economy but also create conditions for increasing state revenues of Azerbaijan.”
