Is there a risk of Ebola in our country? - Official statement

Ebola disease is not considered endemic for Azerbaijan and currently the risk of the disease spreading in Azerbaijan is assessed as low.

Regarding the issue, it was reported by the Ministry of Health's Special Dangerous Infections Control Center that the disease is mainly recorded in certain regions of the African continent and has a local character.

It was noted that according to existing international data, the possibility of the epidemic widely spreading to other regions is currently limited: "The virus is transmitted through close contact with animals (fruit bats, primates, etc.), as well as the blood and other biological fluids of an infected person, and is not spread by everyday social contact. For this reason, the real epidemiological threat to the population is assessed as low.

In our country, epidemiological control measures are continuously carried out to prevent possible risks. Medical observation is organized over persons coming from risky countries or those who have been in contact with persons suspected of infection. In cases where there is suspicion of the disease, the Special Dangerous Infections Control Center has the necessary laboratory base and test systems for conducting laboratory examinations."

It was noted that at the current stage, there is no need for additional restrictions or special measures for the population: "Citizens are only advised to observe general hygiene rules during international trips and to monitor information from official sources.

The Ministry of Health continuously monitors the situation together with international organizations and will provide prompt information to the public if necessary."

It should be noted that the Ebola virus is spreading in the African region, especially in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Whether or not there is a risk of Ebola spreading in Azerbaijan has caused concern in society. /milli.az
