Medianews.az reports that although some users claim it is beneficial, experts say that this habit is risky.
According to information, about 95 percent of the eggshell composition is calcium. This substance is important for strengthening bones, dental health, nerve activity, and blood clotting. Also, small amounts of other minerals are present in the shell, but their levels are not sufficient to meet daily requirements.
In addition, in the thin layer under the shell, substances such as collagen and hyaluronic acid, which are considered important for bone and joint health, are present.
Nevertheless, experts do not recommend the direct consumption of eggshells. It is noted that the hard and sharp structure of the shell can cause injuries in the mouth and esophagus. At the same time, the presence of harmful microorganisms such as salmonella on its surface poses a risk of food poisoning.
