A 1,305-carat diamond of jewelry quality has been extracted in the northeast of Botswana.
Medianews.az, referring to TASS, reports that this was stated by William Lamb, the head of the Canadian mining company "Lucara Diamond Corporation".
"The diamond was obtained by us at the Karowe mine. This is the tenth diamond weighing over 1,000 carats extracted from that mine," he said.
The diamond was detected with the help of the "Mega Diamond Recovery" X-ray device, which identifies large stones in the ore.
The Karowe mine reached full production capacity in 2012. The mine is known for its giant diamonds. Famous diamonds such as "Lesedi La Rona" (1,109 carats), "Sewelo" (1,758 carats), and "Motswedi" (2,488 carats) have been extracted from there.
Botswana is Africa's largest diamond producer.
