In recent years, the increased use of phones, tablets, and computers has accelerated the spread of eye diseases, especially myopia. The number of vision disorders in children has tripled in recent years.
Medianews.az reports that this was stated by Professor Mahmut Kaşkaloğlu.
According to him, a study conducted in China covering 120,000 children aged 6–8 years determined that myopia and other vision problems have tripled compared to the past 5 years. The specialist linked this to an increase in daily screen time by at least 2.5 hours due to online lessons. Games and social media further extend this duration.
Professor Kaşkaloğlu noted that technology has also expanded treatment possibilities. Over the last 30 years, excimer laser has been used in the treatment of eye diseases, and in the last 15 years, femtosecond laser technology has significantly increased the success rate of surgical operations.
According to the specialist, myopia, hypermetropia, and astigmatism can be corrected in a short time using the femtosecond laser method. The surgery lasts a few minutes, patients are discharged the same day and quickly return to their daily lives.
