Climate change will have a serious negative impact on people's physical activity and overall health by 2050.
This information was released based on research published by "The Lancet Global Health".
Research shows that exercising in high-temperature weather conditions can pose a life-threatening risk. On the other hand, a sedentary lifestyle caused by heat increases the risk of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, certain types of cancer, and psychological disorders.
According to studies, every period when the monthly average temperature exceeds 27.8°C will reduce global physical activity by 1.5%, and by 1.85% in low- and middle-income countries. The increase in physical inactivity could cause an annual loss of approximately 2.4-3.68 billion dollars in global labor productivity and accelerate premature death rates. The areas that will suffer the most are those located in the hottest climate zones.
Researcher Kristian Garcia-Vitulsky notes that high temperatures not only limit people's mobility but also deepen social inequality. This is because the climate adaptation capacities of at-risk regions are quite limited. Currently, about one-third of the planet's population does not meet the physical activity standards defined by the World Health Organization (WHO). /oxu.az
