Although cars manufactured in China have rapidly entered the Azerbaijani market, there has been a recent decline in the sales of these vehicles. The expiration of tax benefits applied to hybrid and "plug-in" hybrid cars has weakened the interest in these vehicles.
Medianews.az reports that this was stated in a video material by Baku TV.
According to transportation expert Eyyub Aliyev, citizens imported an excessive number of cars taking advantage of the benefits until 2026, which has currently caused stagnation in the market. This situation has also directly affected prices:
"The cars put up for sale already constitute an abundance in the market. The decreased interest in these cars has led to a drop in prices. Investors were able to recoup their invested capital and profit within 10-15 days in earlier periods. However, after January, the decline in sales and demand has caused concern among investors. Therefore, they prioritize withdrawing their funds by selling cars at a loss. As a result, price reductions are observed compared to last year."
According to data from the State Statistics Committee, during January-February 2026, 431 hybrid and 4,565 "plug-in" hybrid cars were imported to Azerbaijan from China.
For comparison, during the corresponding period of 2025, 993 hybrid and 4,329 "plug-in" hybrid cars were brought from China to the country. The figures show that compared to the same period last year, hybrid car imports decreased by 2.3 times, while there was a 5.5% increase in "plug-in" hybrid imports.
