Half of the world in 2050 can wear glasses

Uncontrolled use of digital screens is considered not only a daily habit but also a serious health risk.

According to Medianews.az, experts believe that especially looking at phone and computer screens in the dark accelerates vision problems and leads to an increase in myopia.

Eye disease specialist Diclehan Ali Dicle stated that screen light, particularly in children, accelerates the development of myopia. According to him, if no measures are taken, by 2050 approximately half of the world’s population will need to use glasses.

The specialist noted that a dark environment is a natural process that prepares the body for sleep. The light emitted from phone and tablet screens reduces the secretion of the melatonin hormone that regulates sleep. This makes it difficult to fall asleep and lowers sleep quality.

Dr. Dicle recommends that screen time for children should not exceed two hours per day and emphasizes that the risk increases even more with screen use in the dark. He also reminded those who look at screens for a long time about the “20-20-20” rule: every 20 minutes, look at something about 6 meters away for 20 seconds to reduce eye strain.

The specialist said that blue light filter glasses are not equally beneficial for everyone and added that the most effective method is to reduce screen time and especially avoid using the phone in a dark environment. This habit positively affects both eye health and sleep quality.
