Images showing the red color of the Caspian Sea waves in the Hovsan settlement area have been circulated on social networks. It is also reported that a bad odor is emanating from the area with colored waves.
Medianews.az reports that in response to an inquiry from Lent.az, the State Control Service for the Use and Protection of Waters under ADSEA stated that the color of the waves may be related to the growth of algae in that area:
“The red coloration of the waves in the Caspian Sea in the Hovsan settlement area may be caused by the proliferation of red-brown algae due to seasonal reasons.
Moreover, as part of control measures, water samples have been taken and submitted to the Central Laboratory for microscopic analysis. Precise results will be obtained following the laboratory analyses, and additional information will be provided to the public.”
