Safe city for children at WUF13 the call

Speaking at the roundtable on the topic of “Children and Youth” held within the framework of WUF13, the Chairwoman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs Bahar Muradova stated that in the modern era, the concept of “home” is not only a place of residence, but also a safe environment for children’s development, education, care, and socialization.

Medianews.az reports that she noted that rapid urbanization, climate change, social inequality, and conflicts most affect one of the groups—the children. For this reason, urban planning and housing policy should be based on a human rights and children’s rights approach.

Bahar Muradova emphasized that children are not only beneficiaries of social policies but also key participants to be considered in shaping the future of cities. According to her, children's daily needs and experiences must be systematically integrated into urban planning.

The Committee Chairwoman added that the “people-centered reconstruction model” presented by Azerbaijan serves to create a safe and promising environment for children and youth in the post-conflict period. She stated that suitable and safe cities for children actually mean a better life for everyone.
