US President Donald Trump has abandoned the intention to charge 20% of the value of cargo for ensuring security during the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Trump, instead of the payment, trade and investment agreements will be signed with the Persian Gulf states. The US leader noted that this decision was made based on the results of negotiations with the leadership of Middle Eastern countries. He expressed confidence that the new investments in the US economy would be "huge" and would exceed the already existing record volume of investments.
"I have decided to replace the 20% payment in favor of the United States with trade and investment agreements that the Persian Gulf states will conclude with the US," he said.
