Although contact lenses are widely used as a comfortable and aesthetic solution, improper use can cause serious eye problems.
Medianews.az reports that Turkish ophthalmologist Uğur Tunç issues a warning regarding this.
He stated that lenses reduce the oxygen reaching the cornea of the eye. Especially when sleeping with lenses, since the eye is closed, oxygen deficiency increases and this can lead to serious infections. In severe cases, this situation can even lead to corneal transplantation.
The specialist noted that contact with water while wearing contact lenses is absolutely unacceptable. Bacteria and parasites present in tap water increase the risk of eye infections. It is important to wash hands with soap and dry them cleanly before touching the lenses.
He also emphasized that the term "1-month lens" does not mean its continuous use for one month, it only indicates the duration of use. Lenses described as "suitable for night use" are not intended for sleeping, but only for long-term awake use.
