A responsible employee of the economic department of the US Embassy in Azerbaijan has been taken into criminal liability.
According to information obtained by "Qafqazinfo", Rafiq Göyüşov, who has worked at the embassy for nearly 20 years, is accused of fraud involving more than half a million manats.
The criminal case was investigated by the Main Department for Combating Cybercrime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the investigation materials, one of Göyüşov's illegal actions is related to embezzling funds allocated for the temporary accommodation of ambassadors and other staff coming from abroad. For example, although an apartment rented for a guest costs 200 manats per day, he showed this amount as 400 manats in the documents. As a result of this and other similar instances, more than half a million manats were embezzled.

At the end of the preliminary investigation, Rafiq Göyüşov was charged under Article 178.4-c (especially large-scale fraud) of the Criminal Code. A preventive measure of “placing under police supervision” was chosen for him until the trial.
The case, in which the US Embassy is recognized as the injured party, will be examined by the Baku Court for Serious Crimes.
The accused's lawyer, Ilham Asadov, said in an interview with our website that his client does not agree with the charges.
It should be noted that R. Göyüşov has not compensated for the damage caused. If found guilty, he faces imprisonment from 10 to 14 years.
