Dimitar Penev, a former player and coach of the Sofia CSKA club and the Bulgarian national team, who was honored as the best coach of the 20th century in the country, has passed away.
"Report" reports citing the Bulgarian Football Union that the well-known specialist has said goodbye to life at the age of 80.
During his football career, D. Penev was champion of Bulgaria 8 times as a player and 3 times as a head coach. He was selected as the best football player in his country twice.
The former defender scored 2 goals in 90 games played for the national team. He participated in the World Cups in 1966, 1970, and 1974.
Under his leadership, the Bulgarian national team achieved its best result in history (4th place) at the 1994 World Cup held in the USA.
