A global crisis is occurring in the world meat market. For this reason, prices have reached a new record high. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, in July 2025, the price of meat worldwide increased by 1.2% compared to June and by 6% compared to the same month last year. Similarly, in our country, a consistent rise in the price of this product is also observed.
According to Milli.Az, based on the indicators in the price information database of agricultural products in Azerbaijan, in the first week of September 2025, the average price of one kilogram of beef at the "8th Kilometer" market was 16.75 manat, while lamb meat was sold for 21.75 manat.
One year ago, the price of one kilogram of beef in this market was 13.75 manat, and lamb meat was 18.25 manat. According to the State Statistics Committee, meat and meat products have almost consistently increased in price each month in 2025. From January to July of the year, prices increased on average by 6.8% compared to the same period in 2024.
Economist Khalid Kerimli stated to Baku TV that despite the price increase, the reason for the rise is the lack of reduction in demand:
"The rising prices are affordable for the population. The increase in purchasing power forms new market balances. Another reason is the decrease in the number of livestock kept. In January 2021, there were 2,651,000 large cattle in the country, but by July 2025 this indicator decreased by 7.4% to 2,454,000. Over the same period, the number of small ruminants decreased by 15% from 8,090,000 to 6,887,000."
The expert says that in addition, the decrease in meat imports to the country and the increase in their value also do not leave prices unaffected.
