“Today is my birthday. Countless calls have come, and everyone has expressed their good wishes for me. Even my 2-year-old grandchild congratulated me. I am very happy and lucky to have been born in Azerbaijan. God has given me this voice. It is good that my life has been connected with music. I am not celebrating a special birthday. We are sitting together at the table at home with my family and close relatives. God willing, next year is my jubilee, and if health permits, we will celebrate it. On June 6, it was Khuraman’s name day. We celebrated together and expressed our good wishes. May God grant my sister Khuraman good health and a long life. This is my greatest wish.”
This was said to Medianews.az by People’s Artist, a laureate of the “Shohrat,” “Sharaf,” and “Istiqlal” orders, artist Fidan Gasimova. She later spoke about her students and young people’s enthusiasm for this art:
“I am engaged in pedagogical activity at the Baku Music Academy. Both I and Khuraman have been working as teachers for many years. We have very educated, talented students who perform on world stages. One of my students, People’s Artist Evaz Abdullayev, lives in Germany and works at the opera theater there. My student Riza is active in Italy. Today, there is great interest among young people in the opera stage. It is very unfortunate that the Academic Opera and Ballet Theater is currently under renovation,” said the opera singer.
Fidan Gasimova says she cannot perform on the opera stage:
“At this age, I cannot perform on the opera stage anymore; it is too late. Only teaching students is possible. We have played major roles in our time. The stage is a great responsibility. Now, young people should perform on this stage. And, of course, we must train those young people,” said the world-renowned artist.
It should be noted that since 1990 Fidan Gasimova has been a professor at the Baku Music Academy named after U. Hajibeyli, and since 1992 at the Istanbul State Conservatory in Turkey. The artist, who has been awarded the “Shohrat,” “Sharaf,” and “Istiqlal” orders, has been included in the list of “100 Women of the World.”
