It has been confirmed that Suleyman Neymatov, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, has been awarded the high special rank of police lieutenant general.

Medianews.az reports that on July 5, Suleyman Neymatov’s biography on the official website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was updated, and the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was presented not as a police major general but as a police lieutenant general.

At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic published news and photographs about the personnel visiting the monument to the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and the Martyrs' Alley in Nakhchivan city on July 2, on the occasion of the 108th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Police. In the visit photos, Suleyman Neymatov is depicted with the lieutenant general rank insignia.

It should be recalled that the shoulder board of the lieutenant general rank features two stars, whereas a police major general's shoulder board has one star.

Information about Suleyman Neymatov being awarded the police lieutenant general rank first circulated on July 2 in the Azerbaijani segment of social networks and was published on July 3 in the country’s online media.

However, this information had not yet been officially confirmed.

Medianews.az indicates that some decrees awarding officers high special ranks may not be published in the official press.

When Suleyman Neymatov was first awarded a general rank on June 25, 2023, the decree signed by the head of state was not announced publicly. Only five days later, on June 30, when Suleyman Neymatov appeared in general uniform at an official event, journalists learned that the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic had been honored with the police major general high special rank.

The police lieutenant general rank was granted to Suleyman Neymatov by a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev in 2026 on the eve of the July 2 Azerbaijan Police Day.
