The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry rejects the statement of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, which distorted the essence of the words of Azerbaijani President during a meeting with representatives of the Community of Western Azerbaijan, informs the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
The document says that the assertions of the Armenian Foreign Ministry that Azerbaijan is not interested in peace and stability in the region and violates international law are nothing but hypocrisy.
“We want to remind the Armenian side that, despite the 30-year occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia, the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis from their homes, massacres, Azerbaijan has remained committed to the process of peaceful settlement of the conflict for 25 years.
Despite that during the 44-day war Azerbaijan won and liberated the occupied territories, it was our country that took the initiative to conclude a peace agreement with Armenia,” the document says.
The statement emphasizes that the assertion of the Armenian side that Azerbaijan violates the Prague and Sochi agreements and hinders the peace process is also unfounded.
“We note that, according to the Prague and Sochi agreements, all problems must be resolved on the basis of the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of borders. However, the territorial claims of Armenia to Azerbaijan, as well as the situation on the Lachin road, indicate that the intervention of Armenia in the sovereign affairs of Azerbaijan continue.
Along with this, the unacceptable conditions put forward by Armenia on the eve of the meeting of the leaders of the two countries in December in Brussels, as well as the refusal to take part in the meeting of the foreign ministers on December 23 in Moscow, clearly demonstrate which side is putting obstacles in the way of the peace process,” the statement says.
