The rise in air temperature during the summer months causes food to spoil more quickly. This leads to an increase in cases of food poisoning. Specialists warn that improper storage of certain products in hot weather can pose a serious health risk.
According to food safety specialists, products that carry the highest risk during the summer season include meat and chicken dishes, fish and other seafood, milk and dairy products, salads with mayonnaise, cream-filled pastries, and cooked foods stored at room temperature for long periods. Bacteria multiply faster in these foods in hot weather.
Doctors state that the main symptoms of food poisoning are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fever, and general weakness. Children, the elderly, pregnant women, and people with chronic illnesses are especially at risk.
Specialists give several recommendations to prevent food poisoning. Perishable products should be stored in the refrigerator, cooked foods should not remain at room temperature for long periods, fruits and vegetables should be washed thoroughly, and expired products should not be used. It is also advised to avoid consuming food sold in street conditions or food with unknown storage conditions.
Doctors emphasize that upon observing symptoms of poisoning, instead of self-medicating, one should consume plenty of fluids, and if the condition worsens, medical attention should be sought immediately.
Adhering to food safety rules during the summer season is of great importance both to protect health and to minimize the risk of food poisoning.
