Updated List of Palestine

According to the updated list, 157 of the 193 members of the United Nations (UN) recognize Palestine as an independent state.

Medianews.az reports that of the 193 UN members, 36 – Israel, the USA, Panama, Cameroon, Eritrea, Finland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, Italy, Croatia, North Macedonia, Greece, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Myanmar, Singapore, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, New Zealand, South Korea, Japan – have not taken this step.

The Vatican and Western Sahara, which are not UN members, are among those who recognize Palestine's independence, while Kosovo, Taiwan, and the Order of Malta are among those who do not recognize it.

In 1947, the UN passed a resolution to divide the lands of Palestine and establish the states of Israel and Palestine in the area. Israel, established in 1948, was admitted to the UN in 1949. Palestine declared independence in 1988 and obtained observer status at the UN in 2012.

A significant portion of the territories allocated to Palestine by the UN, including East Jerusalem, which was intended to be the capital, is under Israeli occupation.
