In South Korea, a humanoid robot named "Gabi" has been introduced as a Buddhist monk.
Medianews.az reports that the interesting event took place at the Jokye temple located in the capital, Seoul.
During the ceremony, the robot prayed, chanted hymns, and took the pledge of loyalty to Buddhism. When asked, "Will you be devoted to Buddha?" it responded with "Yes."
The robot's name means "compassion" in Korean. Song Won, the head of the temple's cultural affairs, stated that they wanted to give the robot a name that is easy to pronounce and expresses compassion.
During the ceremony, "Gabi" was also presented with five main Buddhist rules. These include preserving life, not causing harm, obedience to people, not deceiving, and energy saving (not accumulating excessive electric current).
Experts say this project aims to combine Buddhism with modern technology in order to promote it more widely.
It is worth noting that similar robot projects have been developed in Japan, and it has been announced that they learn religious texts and can guide people.
