Legendary Real footballer Jose Emilio Santamaria has passed away at the age of 96.
Medianews.az reports that he joined the Madrid club in 1957 and played for the team for 9 seasons. In the "Royal club," he appeared in 337 games and won the European Champions Cup 4 times (1958, 1959, 1960, 1966), the Intercontinental Cup once, La Liga 6 times, and the Spanish King's Cup once.
Santamaria was part of the legendary team that became the first in history to win the European Champions Cup consecutively multiple times.
"Santamaria will forever remain in memory as one of the greatest symbols of our club. He was part of a team that will always live in the memory of Madrid fans and football lovers around the world. Together with Di Stefano, Puskás, Gento, and Kopa, this team laid the foundation of Real's legend.
