"The main goal of Washington's military operations is to achieve Iran's permanent abandonment of its intention to acquire nuclear weapons."
This was stated by U.S. Vice President James David Wance in an interview with the "Fox News" channel.
He noted that the operations are aimed at changing Iran's mindset.
According to Wance, U.S. President Donald Trump, with the "Midnight Hammer" operation carried out last year, targeted Tehran's three main nuclear facilities, managing to limit Iran's capabilities to create nuclear weapons.
The Vice President emphasized that Washington later tried to conduct diplomatic talks with Tehran for about a year, but no significant change in Iran's stance was observed.
According to him, the Trump administration eventually concluded that to achieve the goal, a "fundamental change in thinking within the Iranian regime" is necessary:
"The President saw that the Iranian regime was weakening and that they remained committed to reaching the threshold of nuclear weapons. He considered it important to take measures to protect the safety of the U.S. and its allies," Wance emphasized.
He added that the "Epic Fury" operation has a concrete and clear objective and will therefore not turn into a long-term, multi-year conflict.
According to Wance, the main target is that Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons and that it takes on a long-term commitment not to restore this potential in the future.
He stated that the Trump administration will not enter a prolonged conflict without a clear conclusion and concrete strategy./"Qafqazinfo"
