As reported, an earthquake of magnitude 5.6 occurred in the Battalgazi district of the Malatya region in Turkey in the morning hours.
Medianews.az reports that, after the earthquake, the warning about the Battalgazi fault line made approximately two weeks ago by seismologist, Professor Şener Üşümezsoy, has come back into the agenda.
It has been revealed that in his statement broadcast on his personal “YouTube” channel, he drew attention to the Battalgazi fault line.
Üşümezsoy stated that after the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that occurred in Sivrice in 2020, some tension remained in the region. According to him, since a complete rupture did not occur on the Pötürge fault line, there was a possibility of new earthquakes both here and in the sections extending towards Battalgazi.
The expert noted that activity is observed on the Battalgazi line running parallel to the Pötürge fault, and seismic tension still remains in this area.
