"Hantavirus does not pose as much danger to humans as COVID-19."
According to Medianews.az, this was stated by Russian Candidate of Medical Sciences, Principal Researcher at Perm National Research Polytechnic University, Valeri Litvinov, in an interview with "RIA Novosti".
He explained that coronavirus is transmitted from person to person with minimal contact and this happens very quickly:
"For hantavirus, this is not typical. The virus in question is a natural focal infection and is related to animals. The carriers - mice and rats - pass the disease asymptomatically."
According to him, rodents only die when infected with certain types of hantavirus. The virologist emphasized that, as a rule, the disease is severe in humans.
It should be reminded that on May 10, evacuation of passengers from the "MV Hondius" cruise liner, where a hantavirus outbreak occurred in Spain, began. The first group of 14 Spaniards was sent to a hospital in Madrid. The Spanish Ministry of Health reported that there were no people showing signs of infection among those individuals. However, earlier cases of infection were detected on the ship, and three passengers died./Oxu.Az
