This university was established by presidential decree reopened

The decision to suspend the activities of Istanbul Bilgi University in Turkey has been officially withdrawn.

Medianews.az reports that, by presidential decree, the university will resume its activities.

Previously, it was planned to close Istanbul Bilgi University, which belonged to Can Holding and was placed under the guardianship of the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF), and to transfer the students to Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. However, the lack of several majors and laboratory infrastructure at that university caused dissatisfaction among the students.

After days of ongoing protest actions, the decision was reconsidered. With the new presidential decree published in Turkey's "Official Gazette," the previous decision to revoke Bilgi University's operating license has been annulled.

The decree was issued with the signature of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The decision states that, based on the application of the Higher Education Council (YÖK), the previous decision dated May 21, 2026, has been revoked.

It should be noted that during the operation held in September 2025, the companies of "Can Holding" were placed under guardianship by TMSF, and the leadership of the Bilgi Education and Culture Foundation, to which the university belonged, was removed from their positions by court order.
