"The main issue in Baku's Master Plan is the reduction of traffic congestion."
This was stated by Riad Gasimov, Head of the Baku City Architecture and Urban Planning Main Department of the State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture, at the event dedicated to Baku city's Master Plan held within the framework of WUF13.
He noted that the goal is to establish a sustainable urban infrastructure: "Another issue is the preservation of historical and cultural monuments. Our priority is integrated and efficient mobility. A modern city cannot operate effectively without a well-coordinated and sustainable transport system. The Master Plan prioritizes public transportation, multimodal connectivity, reduction of congestion, and better integration between residential, commercial, and recreational zones. Our aim is not only to improve mobility but also to create a city structure where people spend less time traveling."
Riad Gasimov also spoke about the work done in the field of protecting historical and cultural identity: "Baku is a city possessing unique architecture and cultural heritage reflecting centuries of history and intercultural exchange. When modernizing the city, protecting its identity remains one of our main responsibilities. Therefore, the Master Plan aims to create harmony between modern urban development and heritage preservation, ensuring innovation and sustainable development while protecting historical architecture."./APA
