Medianews.az reports that the Scandinavian representative, who will travel to the World Cup jointly hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, managed to qualify for the tournament despite showing unsuccessful results in the qualifying round.
The Swedish national team did not win a single match in the six games it played in the European qualifying round. The team drew twice, lost four times, and finished last in its group. Nevertheless, it earned an additional chance thanks to its successful performance in the UEFA Nations League.
Sweden, as group leader in the Nations League, advanced to the playoff stage and continued its struggle for the World Cup. The team defeated the Ukrainian national team 3-1 in the semifinal. In the final, it secured qualification for the World Cup by winning 3-2 over Poland.
In the 2026 World Cup, Sweden will face the Netherlands, Japan, and Tunisia in Group F.
