Insomnia can appear as an early symptom of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.
Medianews.az reports, referring to Oxu.Az, that this information was provided by Russian neurologist Yekaterina Demyanovskaya.
According to her, sudden onset insomnia may indicate Parkinson's disease. In the early stage of this disease, rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder may occur - a person makes involuntary movements, talks, or waves their hands. It was noted that sleep problems can be observed years before the main symptoms such as tremors and muscle stiffness.
The doctor noted that a similar situation is observed in Alzheimer's disease as well. In the early stage, circadian rhythms are disrupted, making it difficult for the brain to regulate sleep and wake phases. As a result, a person falls asleep late, wakes up frequently at night, and feels strong sleepiness during the day.
