Will the underground passages be privatized? - Statement from the deputy

Transportation expert Rauf Ağamirzəyev proposes that the purpose of some existing underground passages be reconsidered and that their use for commercial purposes be discussed. Such approaches have already been successfully implemented in the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi, and in many European countries.

Medianews.az reported that deputy Vuqar Bayramov stated that such practice is applied in several countries:

"Passages, bridges, and some infrastructure facilities are handed over to private sector management. The private sector then renews the infrastructure in that direction and naturally offers certain paid services in those areas. I believe that in Azerbaijan, especially for the use of passages by the private sector, there is no serious need. Because, on one hand, the country's financial capabilities provide for allocating funds for the renewal and regular maintenance of infrastructure. On the other hand, in recent years, quite large amounts have been spent from the state budget in this direction. It is simply necessary to strengthen oversight, eliminate existing problems, and provide broader information to the public about these issues. The role of the media in this process is very significant. Because when the media sheds light on such cases, it becomes possible to eliminate problems in a shorter period. Therefore, I think that the state's current financial capabilities are sufficient to resolve such problems when they arise." (redaktor.az)
