Poisonings increase in the summer: What should be done in the first minutes?

"In case of poisoning, as first aid, eight to ten tablets of activated charcoal can be taken. However, since the medicine retains toxins in the intestines, Imodium should not be used without a doctor's prescription."

Russian doctor Svetlana Kuz provided this information to "Gazeta.ru".

According to the specialist, improper storage of food products, consumption of undercooked meat, and neglect of hand hygiene are the main causes of poisonings during the summer months.

"When symptoms of poisoning such as nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain occur, the stomach should first be washed. After that, eight to ten tablets of activated charcoal or two packets of 'Smecta' can be taken," the doctor said.

The specialist recalled that during poisoning, diarrhea and vomiting can lead to dehydration - loss of water. At this time, along with water, salts such as sodium, potassium, and chloride, which are important for biochemical processes, are also lost from the body. To maintain electrolyte balance, it is important to take 'Rehydron' and drink plenty of fluids.

"In case of severe abdominal pain, drotaverine ('No-shpa') can be useful. However, Imodium (loperamide) should not be used without a doctor's examination. Because this medicine retains toxins in the intestines," the doctor warned./oxu.az
