Armenia: The minister who left the government is a Turkologist

It has been announced that Armenia's Minister of High-Tech Industry, Mkitar Ayraketyan, will not be included in the new government. According to information, the minister himself did not want to remain in the post.

Medianews.az reports that Mkitar Ayraketyan, born in 1990, received his bachelor's and master's education in Turkology at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Yerevan State University.

Since 2011, he has worked in non-governmental organizations, serving as an expert on the Middle East and Turkey for several newspapers.

From 2018 to 2019, he was Minister of Diaspora, and from 2019 to 2023, he was a member of parliament. Since December 29, 2023, he has been Minister of High-Tech Industry.

He is a member of the Civil Contract Party.

Nikol Pashinyan's Civil Contract Party won the right to form a government again by securing 64 mandates out of the 105-member legislative body in the parliamentary elections held on June 7, 2026.

Born in 1975, Nikol Pashinyan was elected as a member of parliament from the Armenian National Congress in the 2012 parliamentary elections.

In 2017, the "Yelk" bloc, which included the Civil Contract Party, won 9 seats in parliament.

Starting March 31, 2018, Nikol Pashinyan led the people's movement against President Serzh Sargsyan's intention to become prime minister. On April 9, Serzh Sargsyan's presidential powers ended. On the same day, since the country switched to a parliamentary system of governance, the leadership of the executive branch was transferred to the prime minister. On April 17, Serzh Sargsyan took the prime minister's throne, but on April 23, he stepped down under public protests.

Since May 8, Nikol Pashinyan has held the post of prime minister.

In the snap parliamentary elections held on December 9 of the same year, Nikol Pashinyan's "My Step" bloc won, and in the snap parliamentary elections held on June 20, 2021, the Civil Contract Party won.
