January 2026 has been recorded as the month with the most magnetic storms since 2017.
According to Oxu.Az, this information was provided by the Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences:
"So far, expectations that early 2026 will be the most geomagnetically active period in at least the last decade are confirmed. During the month of January, magnetic storms were observed on 10 days. This is the highest figure in the current 25th Solar Cycle and since September 2017."
It is noted that the main source of the magnetic storms was coronal (crown) holes.
