UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin did not attend the final match of the 2026 Football World Cup.
Medianews.az reports that this was announced by "The Times."
According to the information, Čeferin would normally have definitely participated in the final game. However, he refused the trip in protest of the cancellation of the suspension of US forward Folarin Balogun.
The publication notes that this incident has seriously strained relations between FIFA and UEFA. Within UEFA, there has been dissatisfaction expressed over political interference in the progress of the tournament.
Recall that Balogun was sent off in the round of 16 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the 2026 World Cup and was given a one-match ban. After the red card was overturned, the player's suspension was also lifted, and Balogun was able to play in the next round of the playoff against the Belgian national team.
