From today, U.S. President Donald Trump also holds an internationally significant position: Chairman of the Peace Council.
Medianews.az reports that the issue of Donald Trump being the Chairman of the Peace Council is directly written in the council's charter. It is also noted that Donald Trump is the first U.S. representative in this council.
According to the charter, the Chairman of the Peace Council has exclusive powers:
Only states invited by the chairman can become members of the council.
The authority to extend or terminate the membership term of states belongs to the chairman.
The chairman can remove any state from membership; this decision can only be overturned by a two-thirds majority vote of the members.
The chairman can establish, change, or dissolve auxiliary and subordinate structures within the council.
The chairman can create subcommittees at any time, define their mandates, structures, and management rules.
The chairman directly selects the members of the executive body of the Peace Council – the Executive Council. The chairman can dismiss them and extend their term of office. The chief executive director is appointed by the chairman.
Any decision made by the Executive Council can be repealed by the chairman at any time.
Decisions made by the Peace Council become effective only with the chairman's approval.
The chairman holds the decisive vote in the case of a tie.
The chairman determines the time, place, and agenda approval of the council meetings.
Representing member states at meetings by an alternate senior official is only possible with the chairman's consent.
The chairman can invite regional and international organizations to meetings under conditions he sets.
The chairman is the final authority on the interpretation and application of the charter. He is the person who makes the ultimate decision in internal disputes.
The chairman can adopt resolutions and directives on behalf of the council and issue legal acts necessary for the implementation of peace missions.
The chairman personally appoints his successor. When the chairman leaves office or becomes incapacitated, the successor appointed by the chairman automatically assumes all powers by unanimous decision of the Executive Council.
The chairman can unilaterally decide to continue the Peace Council’s activities indefinitely or to fully dissolve it.
The chairman can dissolve the Peace Council at any time if deemed necessary or appropriate.
The official seal of the council is approved only by the chairman.
Recall that the Peace Council was established at Trump’s initiative, and its charter was signed on January 22 in Davos, Switzerland, with the participation of leaders from several countries.
Although the Peace Council was initially proposed by the U.S. as part of a 20-point peace plan aimed at ending the Israel-Palestine conflict and ensuring the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, the charter does not mention the Gaza Strip. Instead, it contains perspectives that reflect the role the UN has played for decades worldwide in helping resolve conflicts.
Experts call the Peace Council "Donald Trump's UN."
Speaking at the signing ceremony of the Peace Council charter in Davos, Trump said that the UN has great potential but is not utilizing it.
According to the U.S. President, he did not consult the UN about any of the eight wars he concluded. Donald Trump added that the UN has not exerted enough effort and failed to end those wars.
Medianews.az notes that the Peace Council’s logo resembles the UN logo. The difference is that the UN logo depicts all continents, while the Peace Council’s logo shows North America, Central America, and some regions of South America.
Born in 1946, Donald Trump was the U.S. President from 2017 to 2021 and has been the leader of the country again since January 20, 2025.
