Loneliness is a risk for chronic disease Increases by 30 percent

A new study conducted in the United Kingdom has shown that loneliness and social isolation significantly increase the risk of developing several chronic diseases simultaneously.

Medianews.az reports that research was conducted on more than 400,000 people on this subject.

According to the results of the study, individuals who feel lonely have a 30 percent higher likelihood of developing several chronic diseases. Social isolation increases this risk by 15 percent.

Scientists state that loneliness means a person feels emotionally disconnected, while social isolation means less interaction with people.

The study also emphasized that smoking, a sedentary lifestyle, and sleep disturbances are serious risk factors. Sleeping less than 7 hours or more than 8 hours a day increases the risk of chronic diseases.

Within the scope of the research, diabetes, heart diseases, stroke, depression, dementia, cancer, and other diseases were examined.

Experts believe that strengthening social relationships and more active integration of people into society are essential for protecting health.
