A media tour to Shamakhi was organized for foreign media representatives visiting our country within the framework of WUF13.
On May 21, 2026, within the framework of WUF13, a media tour to Shamakhi was jointly organized by the Media Development Agency and the WUF13 Azerbaijan Operating Company for foreign media representatives visiting our country.
Within the framework of the media tour, the Shamakhi Friday Mosque, one of the oldest Muslim temples in the territory of Azerbaijan, throughout the South Caucasus, and in the Near East, was visited first. It was noted that the mosque, built in 743, has preserved its historical and cultural significance despite enduring various historical trials and destructive earthquakes over the centuries. It was informed that during the restoration process, the historical architectural style and original elements of the mosque were preserved with special care.
Later, the media representatives visited the "Meysari" winemaking complex to get acquainted with our country's viticulture culture. Attention was drawn to the fact that the favorable natural and climatic conditions of the Meysari village of Shamakhi, annual precipitation indicators, temperature balance, as well as the analysis results of soil samples taken from various parts of the area provide broad opportunities for growing high-quality and productive grape varieties here.
Finally, the foreign media representatives visited Demirchi village, rich in centuries-old blacksmithing traditions, and received detailed information about the history of the village. It was emphasized that Demirchi is one of the oldest villages of Shamakhi, and its history dates back to the 15th century; in ancient times, the village was called Guneychay, and since blacksmithing was widespread there, the settlement was later named Demirchi.
