Tomato and cucumber: Which one is more useful?

Dietitian Yevgeniya Rozum spoke about the effects of tomatoes and cucumbers on health.

Medianews.az reports that according to her, cucumber consists of 95% water. This vegetable helps the body maintain fluid balance and contains potassium, magnesium, and antioxidants.

Cucumber positively affects the gut microbiota and improves bile flow.

Tomato, on the other hand, is rich in carotenoids and the powerful antioxidant lycopene. Lycopene positively affects heart, vascular, and brain health, and it becomes even stronger in heat-processed tomatoes. The lutein and zeaxanthin in tomatoes improve vision, and the fibers are beneficial for the digestive system.

The specialist noted that since tomatoes contain more antioxidants, their benefit might be somewhat superior. However, the best choice is the combined consumption of both tomatoes and cucumbers, as each provides different benefits to the body.

Rozum emphasized that there is no scientific evidence that eating tomatoes and cucumbers together is harmful. On the contrary, healthy people can easily combine them in salads.
