A new scientific study has shown that narcissism can be associated with certain advantages in some cases.
Medianews.az reports that experts have obtained interesting results related to narcissistic people's self-confidence, happiness, and psychological well-being levels.
The study separately analyzed two main types of narcissism - grandiose (those who see themselves as excessively superior) and vulnerable narcissism. Scientists from the University of Southampton in the UK examined the results of 100 previous studies covering more than 52,000 people using a general scientific analysis method.
According to the results, grandiose narcissists stand out with higher self-confidence, optimism, creativity, and influence power. It was particularly determined that these types of people feel happier and more satisfied in societies where individualism is dominant.
The scientists state that these individuals often do not accept negative opinions and form psychological defense mechanisms against criticism. This helps them maintain their self-confidence.
In contrast, vulnerable narcissists more frequently exhibit internal tension, shame, jealousy, and low self-confidence. According to the study, this group of people has lower psychological well-being indicators both individually and socially.
Experts emphasize that happiness alone does not mean high psychological well-being. The ability to learn from criticism, failure, and difficulties encountered in life is considered one of the main factors for personal development.
According to the study results, a realistic and balanced self-awareness can create healthier psychological development and fuller life satisfaction than excessively inflated self-confidence.
