Last week, architect Elchin Aliyev shared on his Facebook account about water leakage from the walls of Baku's "Hezi Aslanov" metro station post. E. Aliyev stated that the condition of the platform interiors horrified him: "Along the platform, clear signs and numerous indications of water leakage are visible on the walls. Based on the state of the decayed marble surface, it can be said that water has been entering here for a long time and systematically; this is not a problem of just one year. Now it becomes clear why from time to time there are short circuits in the metro cables and train movements become paralyzed: the problem is old, and the incident that occurred a few days ago during the rain was completely expected."
Medianews.az contacted "Baku Metro" JSC regarding the issue.

The Metro's press service responded to the website's inquiry stating that the "Hezi Aslanov" station was constructed between 1981-1987 in an area with complicated engineering-geological and hydrogeological conditions: "In later periods, interruptions in the construction process and changes in the hydrogeological situation in the area, as well as the influence of groundwater, caused certain wear and tear in the station infrastructure.
Taking these factors into account, planned major repair and reconstruction works began on November 30, 2024, on the station's tail track. Within the scope of the repair works, the insulation layers on the tail track are being renewed and strengthened, structures are completely rebuilt, and the infrastructure is being brought to a more stable condition."
The construction of the tail track is planned to be completed by September of this year. The reconstruction of "Hezi Aslanov" station will be carried out during the construction of the "Y-17" station, which will serve as a transfer point to "Hezi Aslanov" and is included in the State Program covering the years 2025-2030.
The press service of "Baku Metro" JSC emphasizes that the station is constantly monitored, with regular technical inspections and maintenance works carried out: "The impact of groundwater and precipitation is under control, and safe operation is fully ensured."
