The next drone scandal in Latvia

An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) entered Latvia's airspace.

Medianews.az reports that the unmanned vehicle was destroyed by NATO, more precisely, by French fighters patrolling the airspace of the Baltic countries.

It has not been disclosed to which country the downed UAV belonged.

It should be noted that this is the first time a drone has been shot down in Latvia's airspace.

A warning about danger in the airspace was sent to the mobile phones of residents in the Ludza and Rezekne regions of the country. This warning implies that the population should head to shelters.

In recent months, drones have repeatedly entered the airspace of Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia. The authorities of these countries have stated that these are Ukrainian drones which, as a result of the impact of Russian electronic warfare means, have deviated from their route and entered the airspace of the Baltic countries. On the contrary, Russia has accused the Baltic states of facilitating the use of their airspace for attacks by Ukrainian drones on Russian territory.

At the beginning of May, the entry of two Ukrainian drones into Latvia’s airspace from the Russian direction caused a political scandal. At that time, Defense Minister Andris Sprūds resigned, as he was blamed for failing to ensure the country’s security. After that, the ruling coalition collapsed.
