"Untreated, that is, ordinary tap water can potentially be dangerous to drink. Because viruses, bacteria, and parasites can enter the body along with the liquid."
This was said to "Izvestiya" by Russian infectious disease doctor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Vladimir Neronov.
"Possible pathogens include hepatitis A viruses, rotaviruses, and noroviruses. These can cause intestinal infections as well as liver damage. At the same time, even normal bacteriological indicators of water do not guarantee its viral safety," the doctor said.
According to the specialist, the safety level of tap water depends on the quality of its purification and the condition of the networks in the specific region:
"Even when there is a good water purification system, it is impossible to completely exclude the risk of infection, especially in case of accidents or violation of sanitary standards."
The Russian scientist recommends boiling water, using certified filters, ultraviolet treatment, or centralized chlorination to reduce risks. He also advises following basic hygiene rules, washing fruits and vegetables thoroughly, and considering the health condition of the most vulnerable groups of the population./oxu.az
