The mayor of Ukraine's capital, Vitali Klitschko, stated in an interview with the prestigious "Financial Times" newspaper that Kyiv faces the danger of its operation coming to a complete halt.
Medianews.az, referring to Musavat.com, reports that the city leader emphasized that the city has already reached a disaster level and the system could completely collapse at any moment.
According to Klitschko, the intensive strikes that Russia has launched on the energy sector and critical infrastructure over the past two months have paralyzed Kyiv. The mayor noted that currently the city administration and engineers make inhuman efforts every day to maintain minimal water, heating, and electricity supply, but resources are about to run out.
"We are on the brink of disaster. This is not only a military but also a humanitarian disaster," Klitschko said, calling on the international community to urgently send air defense systems and technical equipment to protect Kyiv's civilian infrastructure from attacks.
Experts believe that if the capital's energy system completely collapses, it may cause the mass evacuation of millions of people from the city and severely weaken Ukraine's defense capabilities.
