Reza Pahlavi, the son of the deposed Shah of Iran living in exile, has issued another appeal.
According to Medianews.az, Reza Pahlavi expressed his gratitude to those who, despite harsh conditions and cold weather in Iran, took to the streets to protest and called for increasing the numbers and continuing the demonstrations: "The greater the mass, the more the repressive forces retreat and the possibilities for violence decrease to a minimum."
He called on Iranians to hold protests on the evening of January 9 and also urged those hesitating to join the people.
Reza Pahlavi also emphasized the importance of strengthening coordination in the square: "I invite the leaders of the square to try to bring the groups that have mobilized to reach each other, which will lead to the formation of a larger and more cohesive mass."
He touched upon communication problems as well: "I know they have cut the internet. All these are desperate and powerless efforts of the regime."
Reza Pahlavi stated that the protesters "will not leave the streets."
It should be recalled that the Pahlavi dynasty ruled Iran from 1925 to 1979. Reza Pahlavi is the eldest son of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the second and last Shah of Iran.
Reza was born on October 31, 1960, in Tehran. He has been considered a prince since 1967. In 1978, he left Iran to undergo military training in the US Air Force. A few months later, in 1979, the monarchy was overthrown due to the Islamic Revolution, and Mohammad Reza Pahlavi fled the country with the remaining family members. Since then, Reza Pahlavi has lived in the US with his family. He is currently based in Los Angeles. He received higher education in political science at the University of South Carolina.
The Islamic Republic of Iran was established in 1979 during the wave of revolution. The head of state authority is exercised by the Supreme Leader, elected by the Assembly of Experts. Since June 3, 1989, Ali Khamenei, born in 1939, has held this position. The President of Iran, who functions as the head of government, is elected by popular vote for a four-year term. Since July 28, 2024, the president is Masoud Pezeshkian, born in 1954. The 290-member parliament (Islamic Consultative Assembly) is elected every four years through a majoritarian system (by districts). The current parliament was formed in spring 2024.
