Public figure Ilham Ismayil underwent stomach surgery on January 19 at the State Security Service hospital and is currently receiving treatment in a ward.
Ilham Ismayil's sister, speaking to Medianews.az, said that she had contacted Ilham Ismayil by phone and that his health is improving.
Ilham Ismayil, a veteran of the First Karabakh war, was admitted to the hospital on January 18 with a diagnosis of internal bleeding.
Born in 1957, Ilham Ismayil graduated from the journalism faculty of Baku State University and the Minsk Higher Course of the USSR State Security Committee. He served as an operational representative and chief operational representative in the Ganja City Department of the State Security Committee (National Security Ministry). He was the head of the Shamakhi and Goychay divisions of the National Security Ministry, as well as a department head in the ministry. He holds the rank of lieutenant colonel.
During 1990-1991, Ilham Ismayil was one of the most active participants in the operations for the liberation of the Ganjabasar region from Armenian occupation and also fought in some parts of the border with Armenia.
He has been engaged in socio-political activities since 1995. He is recognized as an expert on security issues.
