How harmful is it to fall asleep on public transportation? - Statement from the expert

Is falling asleep on public transport harmful to health?

According to Medianews.az citing Oxu.Az, Russian expert Alyona Gavrilova spoke about this in an interview with the publication Aif.ru.

According to the specialist, falling asleep on the road itself is not dangerous.

"It is important to understand why a person is specifically falling asleep on public transport. For example, if someone has sleep deprivation, such as having to wake up early for work and going to bed late, then sleeping on the way can even be beneficial," Alyona Gavrilova explained.

She emphasized that a short nap during travel can help compensate for the body's lack of rest and help the person feel better.

However, if a person sleeps enough at night but still clearly feels sleepy during the day and regularly falls asleep on public transport, this may be an indication of possible health problems.

"This could be a sleep disorder or somatic problems causing excessive sleepiness. The fact that a person falls asleep on public transport is not harmful in itself, but it is important to specifically investigate why this is happening," the specialist noted.

Alyona Gavrilova recommends that if regular and unexplained sleepiness is felt, one should see a doctor to determine the cause and address the situation immediately.
