With the arrival of spring and the changeable weather, the spread of seasonal diseases accelerates. Temperature differences and windy weather conditions especially create conditions for the increase of seasonal flu and other viral infections.
What is the current level of spread of seasonal viruses in the country? What preventive measures are important to prevent the spread of viruses? In which cases during the flu should one stay at home, and in which cases must one definitely consult a doctor? What is important to pay attention to in order to protect oneself from this disease?

Speaking to Medianews.az on the topic, infectious disease doctor Polina Aliyeva stated that currently there is activity of respiratory infections in the country, especially flu and parainfluenza viruses: “The sharp fluctuation of temperature, humidity, and wind increase the time viruses remain in the air. Although the risk of infection in crowded places is high, this is a statistical increase characteristic of the season.
To protect oneself from viruses, simple but effective rules must be followed:
- Hand hygiene: Wash hands frequently with soap or use disinfectant agents.
- Air exchange: Regularly ventilate enclosed spaces.
- Distance: Avoid close contact with people showing symptoms of illness.
- Clothing choice: Dressing in layers (layer principle) helps to adapt to temperature changes.”
The doctor noted that for mild symptoms (slight fever, runny nose), plenty of fluids, rest, and vitamin-rich foods are sufficient: “However, in the following cases, you must definitely consult a doctor:
- If the fever does not go down for more than 3-4 days or exceeds 39 degrees;
- If shortness of breath and difficulty breathing occur;
- If there is persistent cough and chest pain;
- If severe weakness and confusion are observed.
To keep the immune system strong, pay attention to your sleep regimen and add seasonal fruits and vegetables, especially those rich in vitamin C, to your diet. Remember that self-treatment can sometimes lead to complications, so be sensitive to the signals of your body.”
