MV BARIMA capsized off the coast of Guyana while heading to the Northwest region (Barima-Waini area).
This was reported by Minister of Public Affairs Juan Edghill.
According to him, there were approximately 116 people on the ship, eight of whom have been rescued. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
"Currently, an active search and rescue operation is ongoing, and we are praying for their safety," he said.
According to initial information, the ship was traveling from the capital Georgetown to Port Kaituma. Rescuers were able to locate the ship after those on board ignited signal flares. /Report
