The city of Whittier, located in the state of Alaska, USA, is one of the rare examples in the world.
Medianews.az reports that almost the entire population here — 200-260 people — live in a 14-story building called "Begich Towers."
Since the city is surrounded by mountains and water, it can only be accessed through a 4.2 km long tunnel. In addition to residential apartments, the building also houses a post office, a grocery store, a laundry, a church, and a medical clinic.
The harsh climate conditions — heavy snow and strong winds — have accustomed the residents to such a centralized lifestyle. Children even use an underground tunnel connecting the building to the school to get to class.
This unique way of life fosters frequent daily interaction among residents and makes the city one of the most interesting living spaces in the world.
